"I call it Chimera," Dr. Rowan revealed, "it's a serum that could... transform you, infuse you with the instincts and survival traits of multiple animals. The abilities to adapt, resist disease, and withstand pain. Your senses, your reflexes - they'd be heightened beyond anything we've seen!"
"What's the cost?" Kane demanded.
"You'll change, Kane. You'll become... more than you are now, something greater, something stronger, something with antibodies flowing through its veins - but something much, much less human."
In a world ravaged by a relentless plague known as the Shroud, humanity is on the brink of extinction. Desperate for a cure, scientists turn to genetic experimentation, merging human DNA with animal traits to create hopefully immune hybrids. But as the plague evolves, even the hybrids are no longer safe.
Kane is a 17-year-old wolf hybrid desperate to save his only family. So when Dr. Isaac Rowan proposes a dangerous solution - injecting Kane with his cocktail of animal genes called Chimera - Kane recklessly agrees, willing to become a powerful but monstrous abomination if it means his sister will be saved.
Now, with heightened senses and conflicting animal instincts he can barely control, Kane becomes a living weapon. But he soon realizes that Dr. Rowan's true intentions go beyond saving his sister. As he battles the feral instincts threatening to take over his mind, Kane must navigate the collapsing civilization, fend off violent hybrids driven mad by the plague, and uncover the dark secrets behind the Shroud; all while struggling to remain human.
Chimera is a story of survival, sacrifice, and the blurred line between humanity and monstrosity. As Kane descends deeper into his own internal darkness, he must decide how far he's willing to go - and what he's willing to become - in order to save the only family he has left.
