Clara Elizabeth Bauer has one goal in mind: climb to the top of her profession as a Civil Engineer. Her dream? To be able to care for her sweet hippie mom, Lyla, who raised her while they were in severe poverty. Nothing in her life came easily. She worked for every bit of her success, with no plans to stop now and definitely no plans to slow down for anything or anyone. She's planning to pitch her plan to revolutionize Los Angeles' commuting infrastructure, and she can only dream of what that might bring. The only thing that could stop her dreams from coming true? James Timothy Reed. James Timothy Reed is co-owner of Reed & Whitley, and from Clara's point-of-view, he has everything she wants. The career, the power, and the money to live out his dreams. The worst part? He takes it all for granted. He's arrogant, gauche, and more than a little condescending. From the first day she lays eyes on him, she can't stand him. From the top of his messily-styled chestnut hair, all the way down to his polished ... cowboy boots? Is there anything worse than a city guy pretending to be a cowboy? James doesn't quite know what to make of Clara. Truth be told, he's impressed as hell by her, and knows he should probably keep his distance. Otherwise, things could get a little dangerous. Luckily, she makes staying away easy on him, because as far as he can tell, she hates his guts. At work, he's grateful for the distance, a man can only have so much self-control. But off the clock, his thoughts of her are fair game, and she's driving him crazy.
