I stared up at the massive palace, my mouth slightly open in disbelief. This enormous house... is this really going to be my new home? My husband's home?
The loud creak of the main gates pulled me back to reality. I noticed the guards bowing their heads as my newly wedded husband walked in.
I glanced at him nervously. His jaw was clenched tightly, and he didn't spare me a look. Is he angry?
The soft chime of anklets echoed in the air as a voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Yatharth, aap aa gaye," the woman called out, her tone regal and commanding.
I turned to see her-a lady draped in a heavy saree, adorned with intricate jewelry that shimmered even in the dim light.
"Ji, Maa," he replied calmly, his voice steady and respectful as he prepared to leave.
But her sharp eyes caught sight of me, and her expression shifted. Her brows furrowed as curiosity and suspicion filled her gaze.
"Yeh kaun hai, beta?" she asked, her words cutting through the silence.
But before I could dwell on it, his next words hit me like a slap.
"Kuch nahi Maa ,aap ke liye ek naya naukar laya hu."
I froze, my heart sinking. Did my husband just introduce me as a servant?
