AJ and Jeremiah may be co-captains of their high school basketball team, but that doesn't mean they're exactly on the same page. They are only temporary partners for the preseason training where the Coaches have mixed up the girls and boys team to form this temporary new team AJ and Jeremiah are supposed to manage together. AJ, a tall, confident player with a focus on her future, is determined to secure a basketball scholarship. Jeremiah, a talented but burdened guy with a lot more on his plate than anyone knows, has his own struggles, including caring for his 6-year-old sister and trying to keep their lives together.
When preseason training begins, AJ quickly finds herself trying to prove herself to the guys that she can lead the team regardless of if she's a girl. Yet Jeremiah, even when he's constantly late to practice, doesn't seem to face any consequences-no one seems to mind, and the boys are quick to excuse him. Their differences seem impossible to bridge, but as the season progresses, basketball becomes the one thing they can both rely on to make them better leaders and partners.
But with secrets, personal struggles, and big decisions about their futures hanging over them, AJ and Jeremiah will have to figure out how to balance the game with the real world-because the shot clock is ticking.
