Three months ago, the zombie apocalypse began. A lot of people were lost to the zombies, including loved ones and the random strangers we pass on the sidewalk. But we remain strong, and after one month, we manage to contain the zombies and lead on in life. We are victorious. However, a few big people in TV contact the CDC, who are the ones holding the zombies in an abandoned fallout shelter a mile underground, and get around three thousand off of them to use in a TV show where people are selected at random to compete. They are stolen away in the middle of the night, and wake up in a chamber. They are provided with a backpack and one weapon. The door to the chamber opens, and they're thrust into the maze where every turn around the corner could kill you and it's all being broadcast live to every TV in the country and a few other select countries including Canada, France and Australia.
Randy Shay is your average person. He's twenty one years old, he's got a girlfriend, the works. His best friend Gare Montgomery works alongside him in the kitchens of a local restaurant. He's got a pretty nice life. Just like everyone else, he tunes into the TV and watches new episodes of The Undead Maze as they are broadcasted. He longs to have the riches you get upon completion of the maze, but he'd never in a million years face zombies for it. That is, until, he's selected and taken from his house in the middle of the night.
He wakes up in the Chamber. It's dark, cold and creepy in it. He's terrified, and wants out. But there's only one way out and a million paths. Only one will take him to the exit and out. He's not alone in the maze, the zombies are ready to kill when they see him and there are the other contestants. He's shocked out of his mind when he finds Gare in there with him. Together, they try to finish the maze and get out, but it's not going to be easy when there are hundreds of zombies that will devour you if you aren't careful.
Riverfield, a beautiful town by the ocean, is home to the prestigious Decelis Academy.
It's also home to seven boys with a secret: they may simply seem like players of the famous sport, Nightball, but they're actually vampires.
To escape from their dark past, they try to lead normal lives as students - other than the occasional hitch since their rival Nightball team happens to be made up of werewolves. But in the end, these seven friends always find strength in each other.
Until one day, a new transfer student with curious strength causes the boys' forgotten past to slowly unravel.
