When Layla Orion runs away from her home, a cranberry farm in Cape May, she's forgotten by all but one person. The town of Cape May decides that Layla committed suicide, but Olive Kim refuses to believe that her best friend would take her own life. She knows there's only one thing to do: investigate and unravel the disappearance by herself, all while being annoyed by the ever persistent Gio Aglietti.
Struggling to get by as a hotel maid by morning, a waitress by afternoon, and a saxophonist by night, all in the chaos of Queens, New York, Layla attracts the attention of David Langin, a painfully shy boy attending the nearby high school. He's barely confident enough to speak in front of strangers, forget strike up a conversation with a pretty waitress at the cafe he frequents- lovingly known as The Night Cafe, due to the Van Gogh mural on the wall and the late hours.
As the four teens struggle to discover who they are, what they want, and where their lives are going, their paths end up intertwining in ways none of them could imagine.

In the heart of an ordinary college campus, she exists-like a secret whispered by the stars. layla, an enigmatic girl of unearthly beauty, is more myth than mortal. Her presence feels like a spell, her gaze like a riddle, and her name like a melody that lingers too long. They call her the "Whisper of Lilith," a being so dangerously enchanting that even her shadow seems to carry whispers of forbidden allure. lucien , a quiet writer lost in the mundane, stumbles upon her like a sailor drawn to a siren's song. She becomes the axis of his world, and his obsession spills into his words. He writes feverishly about her: the way her laughter dances like candlelight, the way her eyes carry galaxies, and the subtle danger that wraps around her presence like smoke. But the closer he gets, the more layla's mystery deepens. Rumors of her otherworldly nature grow-stories of dreams shattered, lives changed, and darkness cloaked behind her divine beauty. One fateful evening, lucien finds a letter slipped into his journal-a note in handwriting he knows too well but has never seen before. "Stay away, or lose yourself." When he confronts her under the glow of the moon, her answer isn't what he expects. "What if the beauty you crave is the end you fear?" she whispers, her lips curling into a smile both cruel and kind. The air grows cold, and suddenly, Lucie isn't sure if she's human at all. What has he unearthed? And can he survive the truth about the girl who isn't meant to belong to this world?

When one is in an abusive relationship, usually the solution is to obviously leave that relationship. But ones fears may hold you back from doing something that you may or may not regret. This is the case for Juliet, who is seemingly very happy with her marriage, at least in the eyes of every bystander. Of course that's not the case in her own opinion. The relationship is nothing but constant abuse from the very aggressive husband who has made it very clear on several occasions that if she were to ever leave, that he would find her and the consequences would be deadly. His mission to find her has now begun as she makes her getaway as he is passed out drunk on the floor. Where is she to go when her parents are self centered people who only care about their fortune? Her aunt of course, who loves her as if she was her own. Her aunt is the one who raised her, so why not return home? Her lifestyle has now been changed as she changes the way she lives as she returns home to the countryside. Now living on a farm with her aunt, more responsibilities have to be taken upon her. What happens when her aunt passes away? She is now faced on this journey of life by herself. She's not totally alone when she realizes her past friends still live in the area and she makes a reappearance in their lives. The rare love she never feels slowly starts to return to her life. What happens when her closest neighbor, Everette, is her only hope for that of fixing a tractor? Connections start to be made and relationships start to form. Friendships? Or more? That is the question for them. Can their relationship be strong enough to help heal wounded pasts. Trust forms in both of the new found lovers. Can their love be strong enough for them to overcome the power of Ross (husband) He's coming back and he plans on fulfilling his plans and being true to his word. He wants Juliet dead. Can the lovers overcome him if he were to return? © Samantha, Rayne, 2017

Layla has had a one-sided, secret 'love affair' with her brother's long-standing best friend, Riaan. It started at age 16 and she has never quite gotten over it. Now, 23 and an independent university student, she finds her path crossing with that of Riaan's once more as he travels back to his home country of South Africa, after a seven year stint in London. There is an immediate attraction between the two, but the odds are against them. For starters, Riaan is 10 years older and engaged to be married. Then there's Layla's brother to consider who isn't going to be too pleased with the development of a love affair between his sister and best friend. To make matters more complicated, there's also the vast cultural and social differences between the two that cannot be ignored. Will their attraction to each other be enough to overcome the odds? ...And, it doesn't quite help that Riaan has a past he isn't too proud about sharing with the young and innocent Layla.
