Our song started to play-the one we used to shout along to, laughing, giggling, dancing in the rain. I almost slipped, but he caught me. He held me, and in that moment, something shifted.
Sure, I'd always known he was beautiful-but this was different. I don't know if it was the song, the rain, or the way we moved together, but my heart fluttered.
He steadied me. His arms slipped from around my waist, and his hand rose to gently brush the wet curls from my face.
He looked into my eyes.
No, I thought. I can't. He's my best friend's brother-the one who hated me. But in that moment, my morals flew out the window, and for once, I didn't care.
My breath hitched as he leaned in, and our lips met.
