There is an old folklore about the Children of the Forest. They were mortal spirits who were the First Benders with the ability to travel freely to the spirit world and to the human realm. Each with their own element of air, water, earth and fire. They were one with their elemental animals and travelled the spirit and human realm freely. Fire Lord Azulon was one of the very few humans aware that this folklore was more than a mere legend, although slightly altered, but factual. He sought out dragons and in one of his searches he found a Child of the Forest with a Fire Element by sheer unfortunate luck and after defeating her, he imprisoned her. Living the disgrace of her grandfather, Xia's parents send her to the Fire Nation Captial to try to win favor with the Fire Lord. Xia became famous for her yellow fire, not nearly as dangerously hot as Azula's blue fire, but a warmth that fuels Xia's will.
