Tring... Tring...
My phone started ringing at 2:45 AM. Glancing at the clock, panic set in. I thought of any relatives or friends who might be in trouble.
"Hello," I answered, trying to stay calm.
All I heard was heavy, steady breathing.
"Hello? Are you okay?" I asked, my voice trembling.
Silence.
Fear clenched my chest. My dad would kill me if he found out I was talking to someone this late. "Please, if you have something to say, speak quickly. I don't want to-"
A voice so dark and chilling cut through the silence.
"Rishta jodna hai aapse," he said.
Confused and terrified, I whispered, "Kya?"
"Nikah karna hai aapse. Mohabbat ho gayi hai," he replied, his tone firm and eerie.
Suddenly, I heard soft footsteps near my door. Panic rising, I shoved my phone under my pillow and pretended to sleep.
The door creaked open. I held my breath, but whoever it was didn't come in-just closed the door again.
It had to be my mother-or worse, my stepdad.
