IN WHICH everleigh and jj met on a beach as carefree eight-year-olds, sharing laughter, secrets, and dreams. their bond grew stronger with each passing day, becoming a sanctuary for both of them. but when tragedy struck at the age of eleven, everleigh's world was turned upside down. the devastating loss of her mother to cancer forced her to leave the only home she had ever known and move to new york to live with her father. in a desperate attempt to maintain their connection, everleigh and jj promised to write letters, pouring their hearts out onto the pages in the hope of bridging the distance between them.

as the months went by, the letters became less frequent, eventually fading into silence, leaving both friends grappling with their grief and the void left by each other's absence.

fast forward to fifteen, and everleigh returns to the outer banks, full of hope and nostalgia, ready to reunite with jj. but to her shock, she finds that jj harbors a deep-seated resentment toward her, feelings she cannot comprehend.
