"Okay, I've been letting you slide long enough, Aya. He threw his hands up, frustration tightening his voice. "Why are you so angry at me? What did I do was so bad for you to not even look at me?!" The way he raised his voice made my chest tighten. I know I've been rude to him but I wasn't used to him yelling at me. I wasn't prepared for how much it hurt. "Do you even remember what happened in high school?" I looked up blinking back tears. Yusuf rubbed his beard trying to remember but got nothing. He frowned as he shook his head. "High school was a blur," he murmured. "After my parents died, I don't quite remember much and what I did in the past." He explained, so quietly that I almost didn't hear him. "Let me refresh your memory, you know your friends Joe and Alex? They used to picked on me, made fun of my weight, push me against the lockers, and calling me names. And what did you do?" I turned around, back facing him, as tears stream down my face. I didn't want him to see me cry. I couldn't. "You just laugh, as if it's the funniest thing in world, as if I was a joke to you! You didn't stop them, not even once." My voice cracked as I wiped away my tears. Yusuf was speechless, he didn't know what to say. I didn't expect him to. I just wanted him to know how much pain I was in ever since the day he walked back to my life. Aya Rayaan is a 20 year old girl who is in university and trying to be close to her deen. She got bullied for her weight when she was younger and one of the guys was Yusuf Abbas. Yusuf Abbas is a 22 years old and is an orphan. His parents died in a fire and he's been drifting ever since. When he moves in with Aya's family, unaware of their shared history, Aya is forced to confront the pain she thought she buried. He doesn't remember her but she remembered everything. As their paths cross again, will the past drive them further apart? Or bring about a chance for healing, forgiveness, and unexpected growth?
