Something's off. Clutching my head with a wince, I examine my surroundings, or what I can see of them. Apart from a few slivers of moonlight, it's pitch black. The silhouettes of long, skeletal trees stretch around me. I listen for crickets, but hear nothing. Just the low whistle of the wind. I stand up and brush off my pants. My horribly torn pants. Looks like I had a few clashes with the undergrowth...but when? When? I snap to attention, my heart thrusting itself into my throat. I can't remember anything. Anything. It's like a sludge swept me up, rushing me away from my consciousness like a tsunami and leaving me stranded on an island. A particularly dark island. With no recollection of anything.

IT lets go of me, my head hits the ground again, no sound echos this time. IT's mouth movies, but my ears ring, so I can't hear IT. Everything is blurry and movies too much. I can't focus on anything. IT looks at me, IT's eyes are all gray. IT smirks and stands all of the way up, towering over me. I pull myself up and wobble away from IT on unsteady feet. I look back to see IT laughing, watching me walk away. I can't hear her terrible laughter, and I don't want... to... I fall over, feeling woozy. My head spins and I sway as I try to stand. I look back again, to see that the fog has covered my path, and I can only see a couple of inches away from my face. I blow out air and fall over. * * * * 13 year old Colten, takes a shortcut through the field next to his house on his way home. But why can't he reach his destination?
