Sancha Pilar is a thief down on her luck. After a heist gone wrong, she finds herself stuck in the communist country of Ostania with no plausible way out. Her criminal career seems to have hit a dead end, but things change when she learns an old Acquaintance - the Westalis Spy TWILIGHT - is in town.
As one of the few people aware of his identity that is still alive to tell the tale, Sancha blackmails Twilight into helping her, and for the sanctity of his cover, he complies. Inadvertently, she becomes involved with Twilight's scheme, Operation Strix, as a babysitter to his daughter, Anya. Operation strix brings her in contact with the old money elite of Eden Academy, and old habits die hard--once a thief, always a thief. Sancha starts robbing them.
But as her scores grow bolder, her activity gains the attention of the State Security Service, causing Sancha to become embroiled with Yuri Briar, a secret police officer and also, conveniently, the brother of Twilight's for-the-mission-fake-wife. You know what they say - all is fair in love and war. There's no way this can end badly...right?
A soldier does not question. A soldier obeys.
Einar Mayfield was never meant to be a son. Raised in the shadows of war, trained to fight before he could even understand what peace meant, he has only ever known discipline, duty, and unwavering loyalty to Westalis. But when he is assigned to the Forger household, he is forced into a role that defies his very existence.
He executes every mission with precision. This should be no different.
Yet, beneath the perfect etiquette and calculated words, something lingers-a question unspoken, a crack in the armor.
Can a weapon of war ever belong in a family? Or is he destined to remain what he was always meant to be?
A blade. Sharpened. Unyielding.
And waiting for the next command.
