Whispers in the Dark

"You're the one we're supposed to meet?" Captain Price's voice echoed through the small room.

"Unfortunately," I replied with a smile, "but my father's on another mission, so it's up to me to make the call." I gestured for them to sit. "So, you need the 'Shadows' to keep you safe while you finish your mission?"

"That's correct."

I leaned back in my chair, the smile never fading. "Well, let me make one thing clear. In my world, 'one-time protection' is a fantasy. You'll be safe as long as you're alive-but that's the extent of it." I took a slow sip of my drink, letting the words sink in.
