After loosing popularity with his people when the truth about the war gets out, Ozai makes a brash decision: forms an alliance with the Southern Water Tribe. The alliance is through marriage: his good-for-nothing, useless softie son and the chief's son. He didn't want to have anything to do with that boy, anyways...
His grip suffocated Zuko. If his father was going to essentially banish him into the frozen wastes, just let him live here without his father's grip suffocating him...
Or maybe... this exile is not as bad as Zuko thought?
