Carlos stands next to me. He hugs me around the neck and kisses me, gently.
I love Carlos, and I don't care what happens.
Right at that moment, the hair on my neck stands up.
Cha-click.
I shove Carlos down on the ground, hard.
"Don't forget that I love you. I'll see you in a little while," I tell him.
He's so confused, and hurt, and muddy from the soft dirt.
"I love you," I say again,

before the whistling bullet strikes my chest, swiftly and silently.

Carlos and Seb are boyfriends, and they are concerned for each other. Violence on the news turns into fear, and then turns into reality.
