The Third Quarter Quell consists of a twist in which every tribute is to be reaped from the existing pool of victors. It goes ahead as planned, except for one flaw - there is no female victor for District Twelve.

So, as a replacement, a random girl is picked between the ages of twelve and eighteen to serve as a tribute.

Katniss Everdeen's name is called. As an emaciated, twelve-year-old orphan, nobody expects her to make it past the bloodbath. Being one child in a group of twenty-four experienced killers, all the odds are truly stacked against her.

But when her district sends her away with the three-fingered salute, something unexpected happens.

In District Twelve, a flame in the Community Home starts to catch, an errant spark.

And from the spark, the Mockingjay arises, and everybody who underestimated her will catch ablaze.
