Detective Curtis is trying to escape his messy marriage when he's pulled into a high-profile case. Stephanie Fleming, who seemed to have it all, is found shot dead in her quiet home in the woods. Her son, who has autism, was the only witness to the event; however, he couldn't provide any information. As Curtis digs deeper, suspicion shifts among her family and friends, uncovering many dark secrets.

As the investigation unfolds, Curtis realizes he can't trust anyone, not even his team, which drives him to work discreetly. He makes progress, and just when it seems like he's tackled all the puzzles, the autopsy results arrive, changing everything. Although the investigation enters a new phase filled with fresh developments, one question remains - Why do so many people in Stephanie's life have motives to inflict harm on her, to the point that she might not have survived even if she hadn't been shot?
