Herta was never really the type to fixate her attention on things she didn't find to be amusing. The 83rd member of the Genius Society and one of two Emanators of Nous very rarely kept an interest in a lot of things, people included (despite the few she can call acquaintances), and this made her mostly isolate herself, to the point she never fathomed that she'd make a prison of loneliness around her. 

A prison that not even someone of her genius can free herself from.

She'd never admit it, nor try to acknowledge it was a thing... but it was ... and deep down, the smartest woman in the universe couldn't help but be afraid that this would be a permanent reality for her.

But then Nous' gaze reached a new member, who would end up being a challenge to her Hypothesis.

Someone with a reputation in the universe the IPC even fear ... that even she cannot understand.
