When Matilda Routledge went out with Kooks against her brothers advice she found herself high on drugs and framed for murder. Leading her to the decision to make a run for it, stealing or in JJ's terms 'borrowing' his Dad's old boat in a risky get away plan. As she makes an try for an escape a storm closes in over outer banks causing for worry for both her safety and get away.

As her brother catches wind of what his little sister has gotten into panic fills him as he desperately tries to find her before the police being successful but only for a short minute before she was running again. When the word about her escape on a boat gets out, He heads to the polices set up in hopes of convincing them she was innocent but instead had to watch them chase her into the storm. Leading to her 'death' and their risky get away plan failing leaving him all alone and to feel there was a curse on his family.

Unknown to him Matilda has survived and spends the next year on the run before changing who she was eventually finding herself settling down in South America for a year when one day she bumps into who she had been avoiding
