Aleysa Mazurenko, a 14-year-old Russian-American freshman, is living in a world that seems to grow more uncertain each day. Struggling with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, she faces the challenges of being a teenager with medical conditions that require constant attention and care. When she moves from Russia to the United States, she's hopeful for a fresh start at an alternative school, where she can focus on her love for ice skating and carve out a life for herself.
