The Pieces I Kept is a collection of moments-some soft, some sharp-that I've carried with me over the years. Through essays and poems, I've tried to make sense of the emotions that linger long after the moment has passed: love that almost was, choices that defined me, and the quiet spaces where I've come face to face with myself.

These pages hold reflections on my relationships, the paths I've taken (and avoided), and the tender, messy process of growing into the person I'm still becoming. From classrooms that shaped me to the bittersweet ache of almost-love, this collection is both a mirror and a diary-a place where my words meet the emotions I couldn't always name.

It's not perfect, but it's honest. These are the pieces I kept.

False Starts

26 parts Complete

Abbie Dunham has known Ryan Lochte for eight years. She's seen him burp, barf, pick his nose, scratch his butt... So, no, there was no way she was falling for her best friend. Besides, she liked Michael. Phelps, of course. And when he asks her out, Abbie could hardly believe it. It was the start of something beautiful... Or, she hoped it was. Could she really be wrong about how she feels about Ryan? Was she meant to be with him or with Michael? Things don't always work out the way you think they do. And a race doesn't count unless you jumped off at the right time.
