Coley Nickel is a woman in her 30s who dies and is sent to purgatory where she takes a job as a grim reaper until she can earn her way into heaven. One of the souls she extracts is from a man named Levi Adams, which happens to be the man she liked who had a girlfriend named Eve Edan before he died, he befriends her and he helps her bring souls into the afterlife where Saint Peter decides: heaven, hell, or purgatory for each soul they bring. The whole time Coley wants to know who caused her death, but since no one ever remembers the moment they die if they're murdered, she has to go based on clues whenever she checks up on her living family, coworkers, neighbors, and friends.
