Ang bawat kabanatang nito ay naglalarawan ng isang masalimuot at malungkot na pagninilay sa buhay ng isang tao na dumaan sa matinding sakit at kabiguan. Ang bawat hakbang at desisyon na ginawa ay nagdulot ng mga sugat at pagkatalo, na nagbabalik sa kanya ng mga alaala ng mga pangarap na hindi natupad at mga pagkakataong pinalagpas. Sa kabila ng lahat ng sakit na nararamdaman, ang pangunahing tema ng kabanatang ito ay ang pagtanggap sa kabiguan at ang hindi maiiwasang epekto nito sa buhay ng isang tao.

Pinapakita ng kabanatang ito ang malalim na kalungkutan na dulot ng mga hindi natupad na pangarap, mga relasyon na nagbigo, at ang pakiramdam ng pagiging naligaw sa landas. Sa sukdulang paghihirap, ang pangunahing tauhan ay nakakaranas ng kawalan ng lunas sa kanyang mga sugat at tanong na hindi matutugunan.
