When Soren reveals a new hidden portal network connecting alternate timelines, they learn that he accidentally freed Cassie Rose, who has stolen an enchantment linking the fates of people across realities. Seeking revenge, Cassie plans to kill a Jesse in an alternate timeline, destroying both versions at once.

Jesse and Petra follow her into a world where Reuben survived the Wither Storm-but Petra did not. Forced to conceal her identity, Petra witnesses how deeply her death affected her friends who never overcame the loss.
