The Debt Collectors War
Ellie is a soldier in a world without governments. A generation ago, a series of financial crises caused most of the world’s governments to collapse, and left many of the people in those countries in terrible personal debt. Since then, the worst debtor nations have been under military occupation by the troops of the debt recovery corporations, and the worst debtor of all is Měi-guó, the old United States. Ellie is serving in the Afghan Police Action when she receives bad news from home. She is told the daughter she hasn’t seen in years is dead. She flies home from war, upset, to do what needs to be done, but once there she finds out all is not as it seems. Ellie’s daughter is alive and unhurt. She is being held by of one of the many debt-recovery corporations. Held, for leverage, to make Ellie do the corporation a favour. Ellie’s daughter will be returned unharmed if Ellie does as they wish. The son of a company director is lost somewhere in the wilderness of post-debt-restructuring America, and hasn't been seen for three days. The company wants Ellie to go and find the kid, and Ellie doesn't know if she can. The one rule she's stuck to all her working life is to never to go to America, but now she might have to. She will have to, if she wants to save the daughter she hasn't seen in years. TROIKA - Countryhumans USSR x America
The world is electrified. Everything runs on electricity, from lighting to transport, life support to social media. Oblivion. Then, grid is down. And the world turns dark. And doesn't turn back on. America, the most forward thinking and innovative Western idealist, has answers. Her feminist values push her neck to neck with her male peers. She is one of the first to figure out that the grid will eventually fail, because of the vein of fossil fuel instability, trying to raise the alarm. When the grid does fail, she doesn't even get the satisfaction to say 'I told you so' before she is forced to collaborate in the TROIKA - a trio of biologist, engineer, and geophysicist that must find an immediate and then long-term solution to power the earth. Oh, and she has no choice. USSR, a cynic planner and injured war veteran, has questions. Torn between his eastern roots and western intelligence, he struggles to fit in, curb his aggression, and deal with personal loss. Instead of notifying the world of the impending grid failure, he builds a vast arsenal nuclear plants to power his land against the rules, and when the grid falls, his lights and machines keep running. When finally his arrest occurs, he finds himself in a unique situation, offered a position in the TROIKA - but if he declines, then a life of darkness behind bars awaits him. The goal of the TROIKA is simple: Be quick, be correct, be ready. It doesn't take long for USSR and America to loathe each other on principle, each with their own goals and ideals, clashing on everything from fashion to economics. Cover art is by me! Do not steal! A realm where countryhumans exist, rivals, coalitions, and relationships toss this story of them through tons of unexpected ups and downs. But for now, you'll be following the story of everyone's favorite North American, Canada. After his father made some horrible mistakes while he was a child it puts a wedge in the family that only those two know about. But as he grows older the effects of The Asylum (a place of suffering for Countryhumans after death) take a toll on how he treats others. And after countries get revived from the Asylum by a mysterious cure the majority of the time they gain a physical feature such as wings, or maybe another animal characteristic. On rare cases, there can be magical abilities gained that outweigh any sort of supernatural physicality. But Canada wasn't too lucky, and just got a pair of large wings. To hide the past from other countries, Britain does everything he can to keep the knowledge of them away from everyone, even if it causes loads of pain on his son's body. In this story each countryhuman has a stone with their flag on it. It's one of the most precious things to them because of their stone get damaged or put in the wrong hands bad things can happen. If another country gets a hold of it, the countryhuman that the stone originally belonged to gets chainlocked. Meaning that the country who got their stone has complete control of them, and to show it physically a thick metal bracelet is placed around one of their wrists. ⚠️Also no warnings on ships, so be prepared for anything.
