"James, can I speak to you alone for a moment?" Sarah asks as the two watch Steve wander out of the hospital room looking for something to drink. Her health has rapidly declined the last few days, and both Steve and Bucky know what's about to happen whether or not Steve wants to admit it.
"Of course." The 16 year old replies, taking Steve's seat next to her bed. She softly whimpers at the pain running through her as she takes his hand and turns her head to look him in the eyes.
"I'm worried about Stevie..." She starts.
"Me too." Bucky admits with a sad smile.
"I worry about you as well, but I know you will do such great things in your life. Stevie, though, he always needs to try and prove himself. His health is declining rapidly every day, and he needs to realise he can't be fighting alpha's twice his size. James, I need you to promise me that you'll take care of him for me." By the time sarah stops talking, she's in floods of tears and Buckys pretty much there as well. Sarah has always been like a second mother to him.
"I promise you. He's a punk, but I love him. But I have to say if he presents as an alpha I don't think even I could stop him." Bucky admits with a small laugh trying to lighten the mood. It does, but only for a few seconds.
"Look at him, James. We both know he's not going to present as an alpha. Have you ever heard the saying 'An alpha is scary however nothing is more terrifying than an omega protecting their family.' Steve is the definition of that."
"He'll hate it." They've had a small conversation about it before. If Steve's heart is healthy enough for him to present, there is a chance of him presenting as an omega.
