As I stood in the crowded cafeteria, my eyes locked onto Kaidon's with a calculating gaze. I hurled the glass cup to the floor with precision, watching with detachment as it shattered into a hundred razor-sharp pieces. Kaidon's eyes widened, but he didn't flinch. Instead, he knelt down, his hands moving with a mechanical slowness as he began to gather the shards. I felt nothing - no guilt, no remorse, no empathy. Just a cold, hard numbness. As Kaidon's hands closed around the glass, I could see the shards slicing through his skin, the blood welling up like a dark, crimson tide. His eyes never left mine, his gaze burning with a fierce, unspoken accusation. But I just stared back, my expression unyielding, my heart a block of ice. I felt no pain, no sorrow, no regret. Just a hollow, echoing emptiness. "You're so predictable, Kaidon," I said, my voice dripping with venom. "You'll do anything to prove yourself, won't you?" Kaidon's face twisted in agony, but he didn't respond. He just kept gathering the glass, his hands moving with a slow, mechanical precision. I laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You're just a pawn in my game, Kaidon. And pawns are meant to be sacrificed." As the cafeteria erupted into chaos, Kaidon's face disappeared from view, leaving me with only one thought: I'd won. © All rights reserved

"I want to help you." His bright eyes sparkle in the moonlight. "You can't help me! You hurt me!" By now, the tears I had been desperately trying to hold back finally slip out. "They hurt you!" As he yells, the anger in his voice eases out; his eyes are filled with familiar sadness. "I have nowhere else to go." I shoot back, taking a step away from him, afraid he will strike me as everyone else does. As soon as he notices this, his eyes widen, and his fists relax. "Come with me." He responds, hope gleaming in his eyes. I look up at the bright moon shining down on us as the breeze ruffles my hair. "Come with you?" I question. Just as he nods my dizziness takes over, sending me to the ground. His hands wrap around me, barely catching me. "Don't let them hurt me." I whisper, looking into his eyes, trying to not let the spinning world take me. "They won't hurt you anymore. Ever." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tivelly always seemed like the popular girl, always filling the room with her laughs and bright smiles.
