These evil spirits prey on people with strong negative and dark emotions possessing and morphing them into Ankokukeshin that would slowly turn them into full demon called Dai-Akuma, their ultimate goal is to evolve into the Ohma-Akuma The Monarch of Akuma they would run rampant through Japan starting from Kyoto, however, Kyoto was protected by its Four Guardian Deities the Azure Dragon of the East Seiryū, the Vermilion Bird of the South Suzaku, the White Tiger of the West Byakko, and Black Tortoise of the North Genbu, these Deities shine a light in through the darkness curing the people of the Akuma's possession and each forming clan

The Clans are the Azumaryu (East Dragon) Clan, the Minamifenikkusu (South Phoenix) Clan, the Nishitora (West Tiger) Clan, the Kitakame (North Tortoise) Clan, and the Kitahebi Clan (North Snake). For generations, their descendants continued to protect Kyoto from the Akuma, even in the modern era of Japan, when Kyoto is no longer the capital
