Suck it and see- Jamie Cook
She used to think the five of them were unbreakable.
There were four boys and her - drinking cheap alcohol, practicing music everywhere and anywhere , inside jokes that felt like their own secret language. They grew up tangled in each other's lives, in the kind of small-town closeness where everyone knew your name and your mistakes. One of them held her hand differently. Softer. Longer. Like he already knew she was something he could lose.
Jamie.
Then one night, she did.
Her mother's addiction had been a shadow in every room, thick and suffocating. When it finally swallowed what little stability they had left, she packed a single bag and left without warning. No goodbyes. No notes. Just silence. It was easier to disappear than to let them see how broken her world really was.
Years passed. She started from scratch learning how to survive on her own. Mourning her very much alive friends, that she'll never see again.
Until one day, she does.
Right people, right time.
