The Girl of Two Worlds

Amihan never had much. Growing up in a poor, rural town in a Philippine province, she knew what it was like to walk two miles of rice fields to get to school and to miss dinner because her parents weren't able to break even selling coconuts and washing laundry. She knew what it was like to pass by children who had new dresses to wear for Church while she wore ancient clothes reminiscent of the 1900s.

But despite all the hardships, she was happy. She had friends - Juan, Selene, and Carlo - who were with her through thick and thin ever since she could remember. Her parents and two siblings helped each other from homework to fixing the roof during nasty typhoons. Life was hard but the people around her taught her how to live.

And that was enough.

But one day, the dreams came. Of another land. Of another world. A fantastic place full of possibilities - and of war and bloodshed. And it was calling her.

It was calling her back.
