Nico Young has some vivid bad dreams, moves about every three years, and must wear colored contacts for reasons she isn't allowed to know. But man, does she want to. So when an indestructible envelope signed by a Miss Perhaps appears out of nowhere, and people with cuffs latched to their wrists like veins show up, she begins to question just what her father has been hiding from her--or what he's been hiding her from. And when she finds out, she'll wish she'd never asked.

Ten years Delilah had lived within the walls of The Protectorate, a school of sorts for young female's such as her. 'Gifted' they had been called. But what was a gift for some, was torture for Delilah, feeling trapped within this island prison, not even knowing what the 'gift' was! None of them knew! Not yet anyhow! It was a great change in your life, and when it happened, you would know. Until then, there were rules to follow, classes to attend. Leaving the massive estate unattended and for no good reason, was forbidden. Being out after dark, was forbidden. Males, were forbidden. Even talking to one without having been told to do so, was forbidden. But why? Soon enough the 'secrets' start seeping through the woodwork as a danger arrives to the island and Delilah's world takes on a few new layers of madness. With nothing but her journal, in which she can transfer the chaos from her thoughts to the paper, Delilah tries to make sense of it all.
