(Art is Mine; Any potential similarities to any actual events or people is pure coincidence.) War seemed to be a mere game of will and power to those that assume King or Queen position on the chess board; Protected by those they consider cannon fodder in the grander scheme of things, throwing or withholding assets about as though it's all that's needed to win and that they aren't condemning souls. Centuries are merely circular.

This town's an absolute hellhole, so the locals will tell you. What happens if you have to defend it? It's a classic story: a Scottish ex-mining town that's barely survived its own demise since the '80s. They take care of their own here, which means that people like Alex, a young English woman who was dragged up by this town rather than raised by it, get pushed to the sides when it comes to friendship, loyalty, belonging. That is, until the war comes. When the town is abandoned to enemy forces by a worn and rapidly retreating British army, Alex has to decide between committing to protect a people that have never shown her true affection, or deserting them altogether to suffer a terrible fate.
