The year is 1000 C.E., a time of unparalleled power and expansion, the Byzantine Empire is under the firm rule of House Komnenos, led by Emperor Megistos, who has fortified the empire's borders and legacy. As his formidable heir, Prince Hektorios, continues to build on this legacy, the fate of the empire begins to tremble beneath a web of ambition and betrayal.

Lazaros Makedon, the last descendant of the once-great House Makedon, clings to his dream of restoring his family's honor, navigating a treacherous political landscape that has long forgotten his ancestors. Simultaneously, the ambitious Prince Leon, the second son of Emperor Megistos, seeks to undermine his brother's claim to the throne, driven by jealousy and a thirst for power.

As tensions rise, Doux Polykarpos, an influential noble with designs on the imperial crown, conspires to dethrone Megistos and ignite a civil war that could shatter the empire. With loyalties tested and dark secrets unraveling, the line between friend and foe blurs.

In "Shadows of the Throne," alliances will be forged and broken, and the struggle for supremacy will unfold against a backdrop of historical grandeur and impending chaos, as the fate of Byzantium hangs in the balance. Will Lazaros reclaim his family's legacy, or will the machinations of the powerful seal the once-proud House Makedon's fate forever?

"Ismarus" is a historical fiction named after the protagonist, and the context of the novel is the ancient Thrace, around 300 BC. From the very beginning, the clash between the protagonist and the antagonist has been portrayed with a clear understanding of the mechanics behind this clash of interest. Tegrios is a despotic king who has a son named Ismarus and a nephew named Eumoplus. Tegrios loves both of them, however, because of his poor judgment, he ends up favoring his beloved nephew against his own son. Though Tegrios was short sighted, the same cannot be attributed to his queen Calysto. In this novel, Calysto has been portrayed as the voice of reason and benevolence. In the protagonist's life, his father's despotic and uncaring attitude was balanced by his mother's deep wisdom and motherly tenderness. The despotic nature of Tegrios made him view his son's humanity as insolence, eventually disowning him, and depriving him of his birthright. Eumoplus saw this as an opportunity to fulfill his secret ambition. He conspired, and successfully had Tegrios assassinated. The evidence contrived by Eumoplus suggested that Ismarus was the perpetrator of the heinous crime. Hence, Ismarus had not only been deprived of the throne, after the assassination of his father, he found himself running from the law of the land as well. When Ismarus was banished, Calysto abandoned her husband and chose self exile with his unfortunate son. They found shelter in Dacia, the neighboring kingdom. This small kingdom was ruled by a benevolent ruler named Resus. Eventually, Scorilo, the king of Bastarnae, was also added to the list of Ismarus' allies. The events culminated in a classic military showdown between Ismarus, aided by his allies, and Eumoplus who was being aided by his huge army. During the battles that followed, Ismarus was given the news of his son's birth. This led to the climax of the story

Book 1, The Field Rat's Banquet - Complete Book 2, The Raven's Laughter Part 1: To Bet on Losing Dogs - Complete Book 3, The Raven's Laughter Part 2: High Flies the Kestrel - Ongoing The Field Rat's Banquet: On the western shores of Kliskorios, a King sits without an heir. With his three children unwilling to allow each other to sit upon the throne, and a realm unable to decide the legal successor, the Kingdom of Teleytaios, strongest of the Heptarchy, stands on the brink of civil war, vultures circling all the while. King Cordan's bastard son has proven himself in battle and rulership both in the last half a decade, though the coming challenges will put to test even the greatest of his efforts. After all, to kill an enemy is one thing, but what about his own siblings? There is no man as accursed as the kinslayer, so the saying goes. The royal daughter, ever a staunch traditionalist and dangerous opponent, stacks the cards and the court in her favour whilst her brothers, bastard and trueborn both, waste away far from the capital. With the masses of dispossessed lords and ladies of the kingdom at her beck and call, there are few who find themselves outside of her reach. The King's trueborn son, widely regarded as being mad and violent, will act as the wildcard in the coming feud. Whoever he chooses to support will surely triumph, though perhaps there is more to the youngest prince than meets the eye? But there is more to the rising tensions than a simple succession crisis. Ancient things are waking up the world over; Brythonic sailors let slip the things they have glimpsed in the Ouroborisian Sea in Anarian taverns, and the whispers of gutter rats and holy men alike tell of a cult long thought dead hiding in plain sight. And then there are the findings of the King's own bastard son in the northern reaches of the kingdom. When these threads coincide, fate may find itself rewritten by mortal hands for the first time since time immemorial.
