The lives and careers of two hockey players are changed forever when a star player delivers a punishing headshot to a rookie, who happens to be his younger brother. The Stanley Cup Play-offs are in full swing. The Cleveland Crusaders are favorites to win, led by superstar Lucas Reilly. Lucas dreams of winning the prestigious trophy. His other dream is to play in the NHL with his kid brother, Eric. The Hartford Hellcats call up Eric from the minor leagues after an injury to another player. The brothers face each other in the play-offs. Lucas accidentally injures Eric, leading to his third concussion. Lucas accepts his league suspension. He returns a changed player, haunted by the hit. Eric struggles with recovery, with help from their parents and Chantal, his former girlfriend. The Crusaders reach the finals with a struggling Lucas. He is indifferent to winning. His focus is on Eric, whom he eventually visits. Eric contemplates the risk of more concussions and thoughts of retirement. It's a real head game.

When former NHL coach Jack Craig returns to his hometown following the tragic death of his 16-year-old son, he finds unexpected purpose-and redemption-by coaching the struggling local high school hockey team, "The Medfield Wings". As he battles his own grief, Jack must guide a group of volatile, gifted teenagers who carry their own emotional burdens, fractured families, and dreams too heavy for their age. Haunted by the loss of his son Zach, Jack Craig returns to his quiet hometown, hoping to disappear into routine. Instead, he's pulled back into the game that once defined him when he agrees to coach "The Medfield Wings" -a talented but undisciplined high school hockey team on the verge of collapse. Among the players is Matt Bowers, the team's cocky star, who hides a fragile soul behind arrogance and swagger. Pressured by his demanding father, Hariss is used to winning-but not to listening. His rivalry with Luke Young, a quiet newcomer from the countryside with raw talent and a painful past, threatens to divide the team. As Jack rebuilds the team, he slowly begins to rebuild himself-learning that healing can come from unexpected places, and that sometimes the family you choose is the one that saves you.
