Peril is trying to take the next step in her life. To fully cast aside the old her and become a new and better Peril. But when things go wrong on her hatching day, Peril must grapple with the idea that no dragon will truly see her differently.

Clay has been feeling stuck these past few years as a teacher. Despite having his friends with him, Clay has never felt so lost and alone. It doesn't help when his feelings for Peril become even more complicated, making Clay question who he truly wants to be, and what his future will ultimately look like.
