Nearing the end of Char's rebellion against Earth itself, Amuro Ray sacrifices himself to save their home, stopping the meteor from hitting the surface of the Earth.
However just as he accepts death, Lalah Sune sends him along with Char, and a few fallen comrades to another world, leading him straight to Plantation 13.
