Not quite smart, in his opinion, seeing as if he was the one to kill one of the oldest and strongest Gods and then proceeded to drop them from the sky, which he wasn't, he doubted that an oversized metal toothpick and few non-vision wielders would actually do much. But if it made them feel better, then who was he to argue. He was the one on the other side of those oversized toothpicks after all.

"Cease outlander! You are under arrest for the suspected assassination of Lord Rex Lapis! Comply and come with us at once or we will be forced to use any means necessary to take you!"

Instead of interfering, Childe allows Aether to be arrested for the assassination of Rex Lapis and Aether figures it would be better to simply comply than fight since he was innocent anyways. This might not have been a good idea as different factions move to further their agenda and Aether might be collateral damage.
