Taking place one month after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles struggles to adapt to an idyllic life with Sonic, Tails, and the Wachowskis in Green Hills, Montana. His warrior antics cause him nothing but trouble with the populace and his adoptive mother, Maddie. After being visited by the spirits of the wise but benevolent Chief Pachacamac and his adoptive mischievous daughter Tikal, Knuckles is given one last "Echidna Warrior quest": training and eventually joining Wade Whipple for the upcoming Tournament of Champions bowling championship in Reno, Nevada. On the way, Knuckles is pursued by two rogue G.U.N. agents who seek to send him to a mysterious adversary who wants his power.
