Breaking Away from the Gilded Cage

Lysander is the son of a high-ranking Seraphim councilor. For as long as he can remember, he has been taught that his kind is the superior race and the Chimera within the Infernal Districts are... not. In his eyes and the eyes of his fellow Seraphim, their rule is perfect and absolute. The people of the capitol city of Lumina are free to do and be whatever they wish, so long as it doesn't involve a relationship with the residents of the Infernal Districts. Lysander has lived and thrived in this priveledged society his whole life, unaware of the true struggles of the lower class. After all, who needs to worry about the lives of those in the Districts when you have everything you could ever need? Now, he's 24 and will soon take his father's place as Councilor of Political Strategy, continuing the legacy of the 2nd-oldest family in the country.

Ezra Ravenna is the son of a nobody Chimera who lives in the Metalsmithing District. His dream of becoming the first Chimera Peacemaker was quickly shattered as reality hit him in the gut, literally and figuratively, when a Peacemaker laughed at and ridiculed 13-year-old Ezra for it. Not long after, his parents were killed by a Peacemaker, who Ezra believes is the same one who crushed his dreams. Ever since then, Ezra has been the main breadwinner of his family, which consists of his four siblings. He has worked multiple jobs and now acts as an apprentice to one of the blacksmiths in his home district and participates in underground fighting rings once a week. Now, at 27, he's blind in one eye due to a work incident and has grown to hate the self-important Seraphim who forced him into this life.

When they're suddenly forced to meet, be it by chance or fate, the two polar opposites teach each other that not every member of the opposite race is as bad as they once believed.
