This is a story of them being reborn! The first bit is a recap of their death, if anything I did is wrong please just tell me, be nice though.
Some names will be different, but if you can find the people who they're supposed to represent, +1 point !

This isn't modern but it's also not the same universe of arcane. It's kinda when education and technology are both taking off and things need to still be discovered.

After it all went dark, it took months for the light turned come back, but by the time it had, Viktor remembered nothing. He grew up knowing something wrong, something was missing. He had a femoral anteversion in his knee, causing it to basically be useless if to much pressure is applied to it. This made finding friends, hard. He was born to a lower middle class family in Zan, a town so close to the city Pilton that Pilton ended up taking over Zan and it became one. Viktor's family wasn't rich but they also didn't have very much money to spend on things other than necessities. After his father left, he had to find work, so he went to the college and worked as a TA. He worked there for a few years, it was boring until a certain amber eyed man walks in, late for class.
