"Whoa! Watch your step, Scout," Scrapper said with that ever-present, cocky grin, his grip firm on the back of your uniform. The way he hauled you back from the facility's edge was so casual it was almost insulting.

Your heart felt like it had momentarily stopped. No matter how many times he did this, you couldn't seem to get used to it.

"Thanks, Scrap," you breathed out, trying to steady yourself as you adjusted your footing. Your pulse still raced, the near-fall replaying in your mind.

Scrapper clapped you on the shoulder, his grin widening. "No problem. Wouldn't wanna lose my favorite rookie just yet."

You rolled your eyes, brushing his hand off. "I'm not a rookie anymore, you know."

"Sure, sure," he said, waving dismissively as he walked ahead, his boots clanging against the metal catwalk. "But compared to me? You're still green."All Rights Reserved
