In a fantasy world where magicians rule through their arcane power, an elf with more reason to hate magicians than most and his band of friends invent the first firearms; and through their misadventures in trying to produce enough arms to set up anyone and everyone who wasn't a magician trained in a destruction, they manage to snow-ball their ideas into the full modern age with a mix of alchemy, ingenuity, daring, intuition, and just a little of discovery. Oh, and of course the evil magicians in their ivory towers, so high and mighty, try to thwart our heroes of the people at every turn, resulting in tumultuous clashes, legal war crimes, and some hilarious hijinks.

Then, one day at school he gets an invitation from Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. Sure he's heard of it, but only in rumors. The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted.
