Luna, una sedicenne americana in pieno lockdown, una sera trova sulla sua scrivania una misteriosa lettera a quanto pare proveniente dal passato. Il misterioso messaggio le viene scritto da Astoria, una ragazzina di dodici anni vivace e impertinente vivente nel 1540. Luna, da subito convinta di uno scherzo, decide di stare al gioco, e le risponde. Le due ragazze si conoscono, piano piano, lettera dopo lettera, e scoprono molte cose l'una dell'altra (ma anche di loro stesse) che non avrebbero mai immaginato. Tuttavia la loro amicizia è continuamente minacciata dagli innumerevoli fattori esterni. Riusciranno le due ragazze a non spezzare il loro legame?

I clenched my lip in frustration. How could this happen? The elevator came to an abrupt halt, and I was stuck with a bunch of strangers. "Daddy, she has such pretty hair," a little voice piped up, and I pretended not to notice that it was directed at me. Of course, it was about me; there was no one else here but us, and this situation was becoming increasingly aggravating. I swallowed hard, rolled my eyes, forced a fake smile, and turned toward the little girl nestled in her dad's strong arms. "Thank you," I muttered and then looked at the twins with the same strained smile.
