"Don't love me," he said, his voice calm but cold, like a locked door she didn't dare touch. His eyes-grey like a storm-bore into hers, unyielding. "I don't have it in me to love anyone but her."
Her heart ached at the words, but she forced a smile, even as her hands clenched the fabric of her dress. "I don't expect anything, Mr. Harlow. This isn't about love. It's about the kids."
He nodded, his expression unreadable. The children were the only reason he'd agreed to this. A mother figure. Stability. That's what they needed, not some foolish notion of romance. He'd locked that part of himself away the day his wife was lowered into the ground.
But she-she was different. And that scared him more than anything.
The stars above seemed to whisper secrets, as if urging them not to let go. Their eyes locked, unspoken words heavy between them. "Stay," she whispered. "Always," he answered, though they both knew the world was already pulling them apart.

The drop off line at school was filled with many interesting people, and Nadine Clarke was definitely not one of them. Even if the rumor mill was buzzing about her husband ditching her and her two children, she was far from the talk of the town. There were others more interesting than herself like the leather jacket guy. She had her eye on him for a while, along with every other mom during drop off. Playing His Games
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as he stared across the table at me. I could seriously drown in his eyes. He was intoxicatingly attractive and he had to know it. That's why he was acting strange around me. For some reason, he looked at me as if I was the only one there with him. As if nobody else were here. And his voice... it pained me. It actually pained me with how utterly seductive and husky it always sounded. And the way he smelled all the time. I don't know why he smelled so strong, but I didn't mind. He smelled like evergreens and a hint of mint. It sounds like a bad combo, but it dizzied me with how lost I got in it. The thought of not being able to control myself, my thoughts and feelings and body when I'm around him, infuriated me. I was so good at holding myself together now, and he just unraveled me so easily, leaving me a mess. I wasn't the slightest bit afraid of him, and I had no idea why either. Just being in the same room, I felt like I didn't have to look over my shoulder. I didn't have to worry. I didn't even know who he was, and he still drew me in. "So, you were in California before? Why did you move?" Grace Hatfield asked, looking at him. She is our school's college and career advisor. She took me in and adopted me a couple years ago. She even gave me her last name. A saving grace. Why had she invited him here? Why did he come? He turned to her with a smile and a shrug. "Guess I just hadn't found what I was looking for yet." Something about the way he said it, sent a shiver down my spine. Why did I feel like there was so much more meaning behind his words than he was letting on? "I have never done this before." he whispered while cupping her face. "Me too" she said looking at his eyes. "What? You... You have... I thought..." he stammered. She shook her head at disappointment. "I thought you are different from others. But no. Even you also thought so low me. Just leave." she pointed her hand towards the door. "Please understand. I want to be alone. "A leech like you would never understand the depths of my trust for this girl." The God of Water stands behind her, like a bodyguard. "Giving up has never been an option for you, perhaps taking the garbage out of your way can help you find your freedom." The mysterious man says.
