في رواية "المستشفى الأحمر"، تدور الأحداث حول المستشفى الغامض حيث يعمل ماركوس، المهندس العبقري و شخصيته مسروقة من الحقيقة لاكن ليس فعليا ويمكن بعض افعاله لاترتبط برواية لنكمل، بعدها يجد نفسه متورطًا في أسرار المستشفى بسبب مشروع هندسي يرتبط به، وتالينا، الممرضة الغامضة التي قد تحمل أسرارًا تتجاوز الطبيعة البشرية.
ماركوس، الذي لا علاقة له مباشرة بالطب، يصبح جزءًا من اللغز بسبب دوره في تصميم أو إصلاح بنية أساسية في المستشفى. أثناء عمله، يكتشف أن المكان ليس كما يبدو، وأن هناك قوى خفية مرتبطة بالماضي الغامض لتالينا والمستشفى نفسه.
