Jim Lake traveled back in time, it would all turn out to be fine after Toby gets the amulet. Nothing could go wrong... well, at least that was Jim's plan, but as you can probably guess it did not go according to his plan.
First problem? He woke up. What's wrong with waking up? You would probably ask. Well, he woke up in his troll form. 
Second problem? The amulet wasn't in the canal, only Kanjigar's shattered body laid there.
Third problem? His original amulet was on his desk
