No Longer Human

Her first memory was not the comfort of a name or the clarity of her own reflection, but the gnawing hunger that screams louder than thought. Fingers brush against her pale skin-not with affection, but with hesitation, as if touching something fragile, something that might shatter or bite.

Heavy with the scent of iron and decay. Her form is unfamiliar, grotesque and strange, with too many thoughts, too many hungers. The world around her buzzes with life she cannot fully understand-bright, chaotic, and painfully alive.

A group of strangers stare at her, their faces frozen in fear, pity, or awe. A young woman whispers, "She was human once, wasn't she?"

She was human.

They grasp your finger, and you take, and take-until there was nothing left.
