Shadow the Hedgehog survived the Eclipse Cannon's explosion... oh wait, no, actually he's dead. But an ethereal winged creature offers him a second chance at life!

He isn't interested, but the birdbrain won't take no for an answer.

Now Shadow is stuck in the body of a 16-year-old human boy with a new battle to face: high school. Judgmental teenagers, underpaid teachers, yellow prison buses, disgusting cafeteria food, and a biology lab partner who reminds him too much of Maria.

Oh, of course, the school is an experimental institution sponsored by GUN. And the 4 transfer students are Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and some pink hedgehog named Amy that he's never met before. 

Could someone explain why metal hedgehogs with arm cannons are hiding in the school restroom stalls and trying to kill them?
