Almost ten years have passed since Athene and Odysseus parted; almost twenty since Odysseus had to leave his home island of Ithaca behind. But although she hasn't seen Odysseus for so long, Athena returns to Ithaca to support his son Telemachus. When he asks why she is helping him, she reflects on her past relationship with Odysseus, which she can't let go of.
